Magnificent, dense, dark ruby red colour. The nose is powerful and at the same time elegant and complex. With superbly silky tannins, this well-structured wine is a symphony of aromas encompassing black cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant and very delicate smoky notes. A wine of exceptional concentration, length and balance and remarkable ageing potential (7 years). Decant for 1-2 hours before serving.
Terroir and Vinification
Ideally located in the middle of the Languedoc’s largest natural site, viticulture is practiced producing wines of high quality and reflecting the best that “Appellation La Clape” has to offer. In 2015, the appellation La Clape was accredited “Grand Cru” thus joining other prestigious, internationally renowned French appellations. The grapes for this wine come from vine planted on urgonian limestone clay and stony soils. Syrah and Grenache are the predominant grapes with a small amount of Mouvèdre. The deliberately low yields result in maximum concentration and complexity. The grapes are harvested with great care with double hand sorting both before and after de-stemming. After light crushing, skin maceration lasts 60 days in 60Hl conical wooden vats at controlled temperatures of between 28° and 30°. The wine is then matured in new oak barrels of 300 and 320 litres for around 20 months. Great with roast beef, stews, casseroles and strong cheeses.
